ABOUT HANEUM

Not simply a place to buy a hearing aid.

We begin with the conversations, places and relationships that matter to you. Your hearing results, communication needs, listening environments and preferences are considered together before options are discussed.

For older adults, we recommend attending with a family member whenever possible. Clear explanations help everyone understand hearing loss, realistic expectations and the adjustment process.

RESEARCH · PRACTICE · EDUCATION

Soo Jung Han, Director

Director Han lectures on hearing-aid fitting and auditory rehabilitation and is the first author of a peer-reviewed study on a group communication-strategy programme for people with hearing loss.

In the small 2023 exploratory study, eight hearing-device users completed a three-week programme and showed positive changes in self-reported hearing handicap, communication and individual goals. The sample was small and the findings should not be taken as a guarantee of individual outcomes.

WHY HEARING CARE MATTERS

Hearing supports conversation, connection and participation.

Untreated hearing difficulty can make important information harder to follow and may contribute to withdrawal from family and social activities. Hearing loss is associated with cognitive decline, but hearing aids cannot be claimed to prevent dementia for everyone. The ACHIEVE trial found no overall cognitive benefit across all participants, while a higher-risk subgroup experienced slower cognitive decline over three years.

HEARING CARE FAQ

Before your visit

Clear answers to common questions from international visitors and family members.

Should a family member attend the hearing-aid consultation?

We recommend attending with a family member when possible. Understanding the hearing results, realistic expectations, adjustment process and helpful communication strategies together can support follow-through at home.

What is real-ear measurement?

A thin probe microphone measures amplified sound in your individual ear canal. This helps the professional verify and adjust how a hearing aid is performing for your ear rather than relying only on a standard setting.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Bring any recent hearing-test or ENT records you have. If you already use hearing aids, bring the devices, charger or batteries and notes about situations where they are difficult to use.

What if my hearing changed suddenly in one ear?

Sudden or rapidly progressing hearing loss, a marked one-sided change, ear pain or discharge, or severe dizziness should receive prompt medical assessment by an ENT before choosing a hearing aid.
